German Exchange Program
Portland State University-Physics Department

"I just loved my stay at PSU in the physics department. It was an informal atmosphere and after I overcame my own shyness, I connected really quickly. My teaching assistantship, which was offered to me right away, took a lot of stress from my budget and was fun too. After adjusting to the language I had a lot of fun going to the nearby mountains with the outdoor program (skiing, hiking, rafting or rock climbing). What still impresses me is the amazing low population density once you get beyond the cascades. One final tip of a 'survivor': Never ever hesitate to ask." -Björn Biehler

The Portland area is beautiful in every season.

PSU campus is located on the beautiful downtown park blocks.

Lars enjoys one of the many outdoor activities offered in the area.
"I spent two years at PSU as a graduate student with a double major in Physics and Mathematics. I truly enjoyed the close and intense interaction and cooperation between faculty and students at the Physics Department. In particular, this applies to my thesis project which I did with Prof. Erik Bodegom; the combination of experimental work in Thermodynamics, electronic design and computer interfacing, made it both a "practical" and fascinating enterprise. Needless to say that besides academia, it was being part of PSU's international community and as well as living in the unique setting of Portland and Oregon that made my stay a truly unforgettable experience." -Thomas Schneider, Master of Science in Physics (PSU, 1991) Current Position: Director of Undergraduate Studies, International University in Germany, Bruchsal

The Oregon coast is only a short drive .

The Park Blocks are a popular gathering place on sunny days.

Sailing and windsurfing are familiar activities on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.

The Columbia River Gorge area offers spectacular views of the river valley as well as many hiking trails among the waterfalls.
